MMM-DungeonCrawlerCarl

I created MMM-DungeonCrawlerCarl as a playful project that turns a MagicMirror into a small dungeon-crawler-inspired dashboard experience. The goal was to make something that felt lively and game-like without losing the practical feel of a mirror-based module.

The project leans into simple, readable interfaces and a light dose of fantasy. Instead of building a complicated game loop, it focuses on the parts that matter most for a personal display: clear status feedback, a satisfying progression feel, and a compact UI that still feels fun to look at.

What the project is about

This module is built around the idea of a character-driven dashboard: a player-like display that can evolve over time, track progress, and present the information in a way that feels more like a game screen than a utility panel. It mixes design sensibility with a bit of personality, which makes it a good fit for a MagicMirror setup.

The result is a project that feels more like a themed companion than a generic module. It pushes the concept forward in a way that feels personal and memorable.

Highlights

  • Built as a MagicMirror module with a strong theme-driven UI
  • Designed to feel playful and game-inspired without becoming cluttered
  • Focuses on readable, compact information presentation
  • Uses a character-based progression concept to give the system personality
  • Well-suited for a personal display or a custom smart-home aesthetic

Why I built it

I wanted to experiment with a concept that combined utility and personality. A mirror screen does not need to be purely functional — it can also be expressive, interactive, and a little whimsical. That was the core idea behind this project.

This repo is a good example of taking a narrow technical problem and turning it into something more creative. It is part utility, part visual experiment, and part personal design exercise.
